SAN FRANCISCO - Meta, the owners of Facebook and Instagram, will be launching a new app on Thursday to rival Twitter.

It's called Threads and will be available for pre-order on the Apple App Store, with a link to Instagram.

Meta has described Threads as a text-based conversation app.

Last month, the pair agreed to a physical fight, though it's unclear how serious the billionaires were about actually stepping into the ring.

The launch comes after Twitter started restricting how many tweets its users could read.

Unverified users can read 1,000 tweets a day and verified users up to 10,000.
