Mantashe defends use of coal

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa needs coal, but Eskom is not using it optimally.

That is the view of Energy Minister, Gwede Mantashe.

He is leading a dialogue on the future of coal amid the Just Energy Transition.

The country is struggling to keep the lights on, with Eskom spending R12 billion on diesel this year.
