JOHANNESBURG - Disgraced former Steinhoff CEO Markus Jooste has lost an appeal against the arrest warrant issued by German authorities after he failed to show up for his trial currently underway in Berlin.

This means German authorities may now look to get him extradited from South Africa or seek assistance from Interpol to get him into Germany.

Jooste’s lawyer Bernd Gross told the court in April that his client was unable to travel because his passport could be used as part of an arrangement with South African authorities.

Jooste faces criminal charges, including five counts of accounting fraud reportedly committed at various subsidiaries of the company between 2011 and 2014.
