Inflation heats up again in February

JOHANNESBURG - Bad news for consumers.

Inflation has heated up for a second consecutive month.

That's the word from Stats SA with the release of the latest CPI data.

It increased to 5.6 percent in February from 5.3 percent in January.

Housing and utilities and miscellaneous goods and services drove the upward momentum.

This includes insurance, food, non-alcoholic beverages and transport costs.

Chief economist at Stanlib Kevin Lings says medical aid premium hikes did not help the situation.
