JOHANNESBURG - Coal giant Exxaro faces a bleak future.
That's if Transnet does not get its house in order.
In its latest trading statement, the company says coal production dropped in the first half of the year.
It expects sales volumes to also decrease by around 6 percent.
The company blames this on reduced locomotive availability, derailments, cable theft and vandalism.
It says the viability of trucking coal to alternative ports is being negatively impacted by lower coal prices.
The coal producer is calling on Transnet to fix rail lines and buy more trains.
