The Minister met with the management of the steel giant on Friday morning.
ArcelorMittal plans to shut down operations in Newcastle in Kwazulu Natal and in Vanderbijl Park in Gauteng.
The potential closure will result in 3,500 jobs being shed, with many warning that the impact will be much larger with both towns potentially becoming ghost towns.
The Director General in the Employment and Labour department, Viwe Mlenzana discussed this with eNCA.
