PRETORIA - The Health Funders Association and 36 medical schemes are threatening to sue three major laboratories, claiming that they excessively charged for the PCR test during the Covid pandemic.
At a hearing in Pretoria, they asked the Competition Tribunal to declare the laboratories guilty of prohibited practice in terms of the Competition Act.
The applicants require this declaratory order before approaching the high court for damages.
Ampath, PathCare and Lancet laboratories oppose the application.
The Tribunal’s hearing about the three laboratories continues on Thursday.
