Calls to deal with extortion syndicates

JOHANNESBURG - The extent of the activity of the so-called construction mafia is becoming clear.

On Wednesday Public Works and Infrastructure Minister, Dean Macpherson, revealed that construction mafia have hijacked 30 percent of procurement meant to empower local communities.

In the Eastern Cape, the SAPS has deployed extra officers to deal with the extortionists.
