Alternative power providers hit delivery snag

The IRA is expected to boost uptake of solar panels thanks to a subsidy for zero-carbon electricity

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's solar PV market has hit a snag, this as the industry faces high demand for alternative sources of power to cushion the impact of power cuts.

Players in the industry say they have been facing equipment shortages. The shortages come at a time when demand is expected to spike even more as households take advantage of the new tax incentives.

Member-led organisation Sapvia has indicated in reports that the waiting time for solar PV installations is increasing.

But there have also been warnings that consumers should be careful of counterfeit products and bogus installers.
