WATCH | SCOPA Chairperson talks on Eskom, PRASA oversight visits

JOHANNESBURG - The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) has expressed concern about the failure by Eskom to recoup the R85bn Rand owed to the power utility by various municipalities.

This debt could reach R100bn by March next year, and increase to a R128bn by 2026 if no payments are received.

SCOPA embarked on an oversight visit to Eskom and another parastatal, passenger rail agency PRASA.

The committee is cautiously optimistic that Prasa can recover from most of its woes, but worried about the agency's over-reliance on government subsidies.

SCOPA Chairperson Songezo Zibi spoke to eNCA in the video above.
