The partial collapse of a bridge on the N2 in KwaZulu-Natal last week raised concerns about others that may be affected in a similar way.
National Roads Agency SANRAL says the bridge was affected by heavy rains.
Specialist engineers have been assessing the extent of the damage.
One of the recent bridge collapses was on the N3 in 2017, the Geldenhuys Pedestrian Bridge near Germiston.
