Discussion | MPs call on Eskom to reconsider its 36% electricity tariff hike

JOHANNESBURG - Political parties in the National Assembly are calling on Eskom to reconsider its proposed 36% electricity tariff hike.

They all agree this price increase - if granted - is too high for consumers to absorb.

They were debating the proposed increase submitted to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa.

Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says the government has to find a balancing act that helps Eskom recover the billions of Rands it lost, while also protecting the poor from exorbitant costs.
