US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is refusing to attend the meeting saying the theme is anti-American.

However, the Deputy Chief of Mission in South Africa, Dana Brown, will represent him.

The rest of the top diplomats, including those from the AU and EU, will attend the meeting.

Trump has been creating geopolitical waves that threaten to wash away the African agenda at the meeting.

eNCA discussed this with International Relations Expert, Christopher Isike.
