JOHANNESBURG - Miners at the Gold One mine in Springs are vowing to continue their protest, demanding that the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union be recognised as the majority union at the mine.
On Wednesday, more than 500 mineworkers, allegedly being held hostage underground, surfaced after more than 72 hours.
Some needed medical attention after being underground for days.
Police have confirmed that a case of kidnapping and assault will be opened and say they recovered weapons that could have been used in the hostage drama.
Officers will remain in the area.
With the union-membership dispute unresolved, stakeholders are expected to map a way forward.
