PRETORIA - Inefficient rail and port freight logistics is one of the major hindrances to South Africa’s economic growth.
Government is now involving private players to help the struggling state-owned Transnet Freight Rail.
Transport Minister Barbara Creecy has opened an online portal for submitting information that seeks to develop private-sector participation projects.

Despite the mooted private sector investment, the minister says rail lines and ports will remain under state ownership.
Minister Creecy says once information is solicited, a formal procurement phase will commence from the end of August.
