JOHANNESBURG - If you buy electricity from a municipality, brace yourself to pay even more.
The National Energy Regulator has approved the 12.7 percent tariff hike for Eskom’s direct customers and an 11.3 percent increase for municipal customers.
But this is not the end.
Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa warns municipalities could still hit your pocket even more.
For Johannesburg's pre-paid customers, another possible tariff increase adds to the R230 monthly electricity surcharge.
The minister says City Power’s plans to ditch Eskom and purchase electricity from independent power producers, will not harm the power utility's balance sheet.
