DUBAI - COP28 continues with world leaders outlining their countries’ positions and commitment in fighting the impact of climate change.

Speaking to eNCA, President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is happy with the progress of COP28 and that the South African delegation is making progress.

"We are putting the South African message across, and it is being well received."

Fossil fuels have taken centre stage with conversations about whether to phase them out or lean on technologies like carbon capture to reduce emissions.

On Friday, Ramaphosa said the UN climate talks currently underway in Dubai seem to be yielding results after a landmark deal struck on day one to help the world’s poorest and most vulnerable countries pay for the irreversible impact of climate disasters.

Wealthy countries have pledged over $350m to set up a loss and damage fund.

President Ramaphosa says more funds are needed to address challenges that come with climate change.

This year's summit is unique as it's the first to be chaired by the CEO of a national oil company, Sultan Ahmed al-Jaber.
