Metro's mission to close down illegal businesses
EAST LONDON - The Buffalo City Metro in the Eastern Cape says local spaza shops have increased alarmingly.
It's database indicates 1,600 spaza shops, but authorities claim the figure is much higher.
Furthermore, 90% of spaza shops are owned by foreign nationals.
The municipality plans to drastically reduce the number of shop owners to allow more South Africans to benefit from informal business.
