JOHANNESBURG - Whistleblowers and activists say their pleas for help and protection have landed on deaf ears.
This follows shocking reports that SAPS whistleblower Patricia Mashale and her husband are seeking refuge outside the country.
Mashale has been in hiding after revealing corruption within the police service.
Violence monitor Professor Mary de Haas says they do not know who to turn to.
"People need help. They need help with reporting, getting cases investigated but they get killed in the process and there is no protection," she said.
"Witnesses are killed before they can testify, witnesses in protection are threatened when they get out [of protection] they will be killed.
"The police are doing this and they have been a problem for a long time."
