JOHANNESBURG - Electricity generation and transmission are the most important factors in boosting grid capacity at this stage.
That’s according to energy expert Mark Swilling, who's made a suggestion.

"What’s happening at the moment is distribution is the list of the priorities but it does not mean it’s not important.
"There’s a lot of effort to stabilise the fleet but you are not really going to get the big bucks from Treasury," he said.
"So, to solve the generation gap you massive amounts of renewables… Where you don’t have power lines and you don’t have substations like in the Northern Cape.
"We shouldn’t be excited about what’s happening in the Northern Cape until the real transmission rollout plan that the minister is talking about starts happening on scale," he said.
