JOHANNESBURG - Unemployment and retrenchment continue as companies experience financial distress.
The Employment and Labour Department has the unenviable task of trying to reverse South Africa's current situation.
"Our economy is depressed so companies find it difficult to expand," said Labour Department director-general, Thobile Lamati.
Lamati credits the decline in employment to companies not following basic productivity principles.
Productivity South Africa is currently working on a project called Turn Around Solution.
It focuses on increasing productivity to expand job creation.
This project is funded by the Unemployment and Insurance Fund.
