Service Delivery | More dark days ahead for Lichtenburg

LICHTENBURG - Residents and businesses in Lichtenburg in the North West’s Ditsobotla Local Municipality are facing more dark days.

It’s now over two weeks since a transformer failed, leaving them powerless.

Eskom says it's unclear when it will conclude repairs.

It's also demanding the municipality pay a portion of its R1-billion in arrears before it will restore services.

The local DA  councillor says this is unfair to consumers who have consistently paid their rates.

He says Eskom's behaviour leaves them with no alternative but to take them to court to force them to restore services.

Although it's not clear when electricity will be restored, the municipality says an amicable solution has been reached following provincial government intervention.

At this point, the status quo remains, with residents left without electricity.
