One of SA's most wanted in the dock

JOHANNESBURG - The father of Andrea Venter, who was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, has seen him in the dock for the first time after he did a runner seven years ago.

Gerhardus Jansen van Vuuren was extradited from Brazil on Friday last week and faces a murder charge from 2011.

Jansen van Vuuren sat stonefaced in the dock.

He is alleged to have stabbed Venter to death on 2 May 2011.

He had been evading justice for over seven years.

But Dries Venter, Andrea's father, says he's incredibly relieved to see him in the dock.

"Luckily, the long arm of the law got him," Dries Venter said.

"I'm just glad he's here and he's going to get what's coming to him."

Jansen Van Vuuren will be represented by legal aid and the case has been postponed to 6 November.
