NW mayor, municipality manager released on warning

JOHANNESBURG - The mayor and director of the JB Marks Municipality in the North West have been released on warning after they were charged with fraud and theft.

Kgotso Moses Khumalo and Cyril Hendry appeared in the Potchefstroom Magistrate's Court.

About R5-million intended for the municipality was deposited but never declared to the Auditor-General.

According to investigations, the money was allegedly paid into the suspect's private accounts.

It's alleged that in some instances they paid for services that were never rendered and later collected the money.

They are also accused of faking invoices.

The pair will be back in court on 1 December.
