DA wins urgent interdict against impeached judge
CAPE TOWN - Impeached Judge President John Hlophe has been barred from taking part in the next Judicial Service Commission meeting according to a ruling by the Western Cape High on Friday.
Early this month the Democratic Alliance,Corruption Watch and Freedom Under Law applied to stop him taking up a seat at the JSC October meeting.
This pending a review of the National Assembly’s decision to appoint him to the commission.
They argued that it was irrational for Hlophe to be a part of the body that interviews judges for vacancies, and disciplines members of the judiciary, after he himself was impeached.
Hlophe was sworn in as a member of Parliament for the Umkhonto weSizwe Party in June.
DA national spokesperson Karabo Khakhau discussed this with eNCA.
