JOHANENSBURG - Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela says Shepherd Bushiri has set a bad example by fleeing South Africa.
Modensela says Bushiri is behaving wrongly and that everyone is equal under the law.
"You ignore the law, violate the law, then you dictate the terms on which you have to be held accountable. It does not work that way."
The Enlightened Christian Gathering Church leader, announced he and his wife Mary, have quietly left the country.
They are facing charges of fraud, theft and money laundering.
Bushiri is adamant he's not running away from his trial in South Africa.
He says he is in Malawi to seek intervention from his home country.
