CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape has set an ambitious target of reducing road deaths by 50 percent this festive season.
It's deploying almost 600 traffic officers across the province.
They will concentrate on drunk driving and speeding, the largest contributors to crashes.

And government has got the buy in of the National Taxi Council.
Motorists say they appreciate the initiatives and hope they'll bring positive results.
In addition to the increased traffic and police presence, over 100 cadets and 296 vehicles will be made available for patrol.
