The Academy disqualifies Nigerian Oscar entry

JOHANNESBURG - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has disqualified Nigeria's Lionheart from the Best International Feature Film category for having too much dialogue in English.

According to The Wrap, the film was disqualified for violating a rule that entries in the category must have “a predominantly non-English dialogue track.”

The movie which is directed by and stars Genevieve Nnaji tells the story of a young woman who is forced to take over her fathers company after he falls ill.

The number of movies competing for the award in the category has dropped from 93 to 92.

Lionheart has received strong reviews from critics and is currently streaming on Netflix.
