Cape Town - 1 in 10 women are affected by endometriosis. The chronic disease involves tissue similar to the lining that grows outside the uterus.

It can cause severe pain in the pelvic region and make it harder to get pregnant.

The condition is more common than diabetes in South Africa, but receives less funding, less attention with women often having to wait years for a diagnosis.
