African Vaccination Week | Importance of vaccines in eradicating diseases

JOHANNESBURG - It's been 50 years since the Department of Health launched Expanded Program on Immunization.

The program has saved thousands of lives, providing vaccines to every child across the country.

The end of April marked the recognition of African Vaccination Week which promotes the eradication of vaccine-preventable diseases.

Dr Lauren Sekuthe from SANOFI South Africa says she's concerned that misguided safety concerns in some countries have led to a fall in vaccine coverage rates.

This has caused the re-emergence of some deadly diseases.

Sekuthe spoke to eNCA.
