WATCH | A closer look into Thabo Bester's prison escape saga

JOHANNESBURG - It’s the story that movies are made of and it gets more dramatic with each court appearance. 

Nothing though could have prepared South Africa for the latest Thabo Bester rant in court – pleading for the death penalty and an end to what is bound to be a marathon court case.

Bester, his alleged partner in crime in his escape from jail, Nandipha Magudumana and 7 others, made another appearance in the high court this week. They face charges ranging from fraud, corruption, aiding and abetting a convict, violation of a corpse and arson. 

The latest court  appearance had South Africans glued to their screens and had social media abuzz.
