City Power given go ahead on M1 repairs

JOHANNESBURG - City Power says it has been given the green light to carry out repairs on the M1 bridge following an underground cable fire along the M1 North this week.

Cable theft and vandalism have been singled out as the main causes of the blaze.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency assessed the extent of the damage and has determined that it's safe for workers.

City Power, however, says work towards restoring full power supply can't begin until those repairs are completed.

The utility has so far managed to restore supply to Metro Centre, Liberty Life, Braampark, Wits University and other office buildings in the Braamfontein area.

Parts of the CBD, Newtown, Parktown and surrounds will be given updates when maintenance work continues.
