Baby rescued from KZN police station toilet

DURBAN - A KwaZulu-Natal police officer is being praised for going beyond the call of duty.

Silindile Masondo rescued a baby abandoned in a toilet at the station.

A member of the public heard the baby crying uncontrollably and alerted officers.

Masondo went to investigate and discovered the newborn.

She was however unable to get hold of social workers to take the child to a place of safety.

Masondo then decided to buy food, clothes and other supplies.

She nurtured the child while balancing her work duties.
